Bear in The Meadows

From a neighbor on Aralia:

"I just wanted to give you a heads up that there is a bear in town.  I live on the south end of Aralia, near where it meets Canyon Crest and at about 1:15 AM this (Monday) morning, I heard a crash out front, so I went to the window with a flashlight.  Across the street was a bear eating from my neighbors trash cans.  He was dark brown or black, and looked to be a on the young side, but I'm not positive.  Figured I'd give you a heads up, and I will speak to the Sheriff tomorrow to see if there is anything that can be done."

Instead of calling the Sheriff (they come with guns) how about just working with your neighbors to keep your trash cans well sealed and not put them out until the morning of trash pick up. Yes we have bears. WE need to change our habits so they don't come digging for food. Their habitat has been destroyed...let's be a little patient with them, please! Jane S.

Hello Neighbors! I can confirm that there is a "new" bear in town that I believe is trying to set up it's territory. On Sat the 9th at approximately 830AM I was walking from the upper El Prieto trail taking the short cut behind my neighbor's back yard on upper Rising Hill Road.. I saw the black bear...apparently my dog and I startled it and it leaped off of the trail up the mountainside.

It IS a young black bear and in my opinion it looked younger than 2yrs old; as it was a smudge larger than my 138lb dog.

Unless it's mother is still with it I'm u sure why the sheriff would need to be called. I truly belueve that it spends most of it's time on the El Prieto trail because I see mounds of new poop al ost every day.

What exactly do you want "done" to the bear? He hasn't committed any crime or harmed anyone.

Nothing needs to be done......except maybe watch what's put in the trash........just leave him alone.
