Messing with the Mailboxes

Update:  The same neighbor found El Prieto residents' mail tossed in the bushes.  She is going to deliver it to the houses.  Chances are this was someone taking mail looking for tax refunds.

A neighbor reported this morning that mailboxes were opened at some houses on El Prieto and Risinghill.  It most likely occurred last night or early this morning.

Please watch for any unusual activity.

This is wild speculation, but I'm wondering if the mailbox caper might not be the work of a hungry bear hoping to find something to eat, when he couldn't find any garbage cans. Seems to me that a crook looking for checks would be the dumbest criminal ever, leaving such evidence of tampering, even spreading mail about in the bushes.

Saw a person stealing mail on Lower Canyon Crest. Caucasian male, very short dark red hair, sideburns, driving a dark blue Toyota sedan or hatchback on Wednesday evening around 7PM. This was reported to the Sheriff.

after my morning neighborhood walk I noticed my mailbox was slightly open and then when I drove to work i noticed nearly all the mailboxes on Rising Hill were wide open. So it had to have happened between 7:20 and 7:55 that morning because I would have noticed if they were open when I was walking.

This happened again this morning (May 4th) and our outgoing mail was stolen. My husband saw many mailboxes open on Risinghill Rd and mail dumped into a neighbor's yard. The sheriffs were alerted and did not seem to be aware of the problem!

I reported this to the USPS. When I spoke to our mailman he said he had seen dumped mail around the meadows every day for a week. The USPS will send investigators

I found a pile of junk mail and catalogs in my yard this morning from a home on Lincoln. This is more wide spread than just the Meadows I think. Jane S
